The closing Martin & Walters this year was great fun. We had 24 teams divided up into 3 draws playing 2 games with part of game one being completed in the lounge which ended up being a ‘hoot’. The winner of the Martin & Walter trophy was the team of Don Currier, Debbie Currier, Mark Belcher, Jan Belcher and the winner of the Button High Lynn Crossman trophy was the family team of Mark Dunham, Frank Dunham, Austin Dunham, Isaiah Dunham. The ‘Most Honest Curling Team’ this season was the Pearson rink. Dave Travers and Steve ran the annual Turkey/Ham toss with funds going to the Juniors and I am pleased to report that this raised $ 143.35 for the junior kitty. John Strang won the turkey and donated back his proceeds while Janie Ryan won the ham plus there were donations from those not so adventurous curlers. . All in all a great fun day at the club.
A special presentation was made to Steve Eastlake who was given an Honorary Membership for all his dedication to the club over the last 22+ years. There is a long process and a special committee to determine if a member fits the criteria and then final approval is made by The Board. Congratulations Steve and thank you for all your hard work on behalf of the club.
Congratulations also to all our final draw winners. The Monday Men’s Champion was the team of Andy Palmer, Bill Hogg, Robert Hough, Gord Mitchell besting Don Currier, Kirk Donald, Al Thompson, David Salvisburg in a last rock nail biting finish (or so I heard). Tuesday Mixed winner was Louise VanHeighten, Arnold VanHeighten, Deb Kowalik, Bob StJohn with runner up Robert Hough, Jane Hough, Ed Kurck, Angela Eskerod. The Friday Mixed showed Kees VanGent, Christine Perry, Pam Jordan, Sharon VanGent winning the draw followed closely by Don Pearson, Jane Pearson, Cathy Howard, Glenn Goodman. The Wednesday night ladies winner was Heather Ramshaw, Sandra O’Neill, Ange Herrington, Katy Liddle with Janie Ryan, Linda Bongard, Lisa Mooney, Sheryl Martin coming in second. The Up & At’Em winner was the team of Bill Casselman, Elaine Badgley, Janine Murray, Paul Reinke with Linda Perry as a many game spare, followed closely by the team of Jim Webb, Susi Reinink, Sheila Pennell, Jessica Kaiser. I heard the 3 table pot luck + dessert table was as delicious as ever so a big thank you to Don & Brenda Kerr for convening this popular league. Friday night also ended with a fantastic Bahamas Mama Party which was well attended thanks to Frank and Patty Lion.

Myself and The Board are very pleased that the Annual General Meeting had over 50 members in attendance and all club business was actioned in a timely manner.
Well folks, I hate to say it but this is my last article for this season so have a great summer and see you all ‘on the ice’ in the fall.
