The Napanee & District Curling Club welcomes you to another great season of curling. This year we have 229 members with 23 of these being new to the club. It takes a ton of man hours to get everything set up and running smoothly for any curling year and your Board, President and House Director Heather Ramshaw, Vice President and Ladies Games Director, Deb Kowalik, Membership – Sandy Eastlake, Ice – Steve Eastlake, Junior Director – Dave Travers, Mens Games – Ian Munro with assistants Steve and Andy Palmer, Mixed Games – Ed & Angela Kurc, Up&At’Em rep – Don&Brenda Kerr, Fundraising – Linda Bongard, Men/Mixed Bonspiels – Allan Wrigglesworth, Kitchen – Robin Stockfish/Cathy Howard, and Bar Al Thompson/Paul Reinke thank all the volunteers who have already completed a duty or two. All members oohed and aahed as they entered the newly renovated locker rooms which are bright and cheery in pastel shades of tan and grey. The committee of Sandy Eastlake, Bill Ryan, Doug Pennell, Steve Eastlake, Stacey Jones and Heather Ramshaw thank our volunteers who put in many, many hours completing this huge project over the summer months.
A couple of preseason events have already occurred thanks to our Fundraising Director, Linda Bongard who convened our annual Horn of Plenty on Saturday, September 29th. She thanked the many volunteers for their time and generous donations starting her on the way with her fundraising efforts. Next was the annual Bridge Luncheon convened by Penny McPherson/Tessa Brunton with Janine Murray, Shelley Alkenbrack, Joelle Dickson held on Monday 01st October. Fifteen tables of avid players had an entertaining day of playing bridge and conversing with friends while enjoying a delicious lunch provided by the committee along with many member volunteers.
The 16th Annual Swing & Sweep convened by Heather Ramshaw on Saturday 13th October began with a cool but dry morning with a Shot Gun start at 10AM at the Napanee Golf Club. Chris Ramshaw presented the trophy and Christine Perry from the Playground Licensed Childcare Centre donated gift cards to this year’s three-peat winners Ian Munro, Karen Brant-Taylor, Mark Taylor and Emily Brant. “Mulligans” were sold as a fundraiser and everyone who entered got their name in draw for gift baskets donated by Christine Ramshaw from the Playground Licensed Childcare Centre. A big thank you to Mathew and Chris Downey who sponsored the longest drive and closest to the hole prizes for the golf and this year’s winners were: Men’s Closest to the Pin – Don Kerr, Men’s Longest Drive – Eric Collins, Ladies Closest to the Pin – Not won (draw prize), Ladies Longest Drive – Christine Perry. The winning skip Ian Munro thanked Heather and all the volunteers for a great day of golf, curling, a nice lunch, thirst quenching drinks and a delicious supper. What a way to start the curling season. Heather thanked all participants, volunteers and supporters for an excellent day once again.
Be sure to take a minute and view our “Volunteer Presentation Thanks to all of you”! on the tv set up for that purpose as to name all volunteers in this Beaver article is just not possible.
There is always lots of action at the club so remember to check all bulletin boards for sign up sheets and information on all upcoming events. The Continental Cup is set for Saturday, 03rd November; our annual Mens Open is Saturday, 17th November and our first ever Open Stick Spiel is set for Saturday, 24th November.
